Striker sighed in irritation. I tensed. He smoothed his hand over my hip, relaxing me again. “I do not have time for people who abandon those they supposedly care about. In my world, your word is all you have. If you break that word, you can no longer be trusted.”

“Your world?” I asked in confusion, rolling over to face him. His blue eyes locked on my green ones.

He nodded. “My world,” he confirmed. “We’re criminals, doll. We live on the other side of the law.
